The Ask
Sabor Unido is a beloved staple in the city of Newark, serving the community for over 15 years. With a rich blend of Portuguese and Brazilian influences, the restaurant is known for its flavorful cuisine and beautifully presented dishes. The goal was to create a logo that honored the owners’ Brazilian heritage while subtly evoking the essence of Rio de Janeiro — Brazil’s most iconic and picturesque city.
The Design
The logo design was based on an existing typeface - Laviossa (modern serif font created by Jehoo Creative), which I carefully customized throughout the process. With rounded, confident letterforms, the typography conveys a sense of understated luxury and calm elegance. Its subtle sense of movement pairs beautifully with the iconic wave pattern of Rio de Janeiro’s Copacabana sidewalk.
The modified “o” was intentionally crafted to intuitively reflect this pattern — a simple, thoughtful nod to one of Brazil’s most recognizable landmarks.

The visual development was inspired by aesthetic elements already present in the space, such as plants and decorative pieces commonly found in Brazilian homes. The brand was designed with versatility in mind, allowing seamless integration with various vector elements — from hearts symbolizing family to trees and plants that reflect warmth, nature, and cultural familiarity.

The result is a brand that aligns more closely with its audience and the high quality of its cuisine — a visual identity that speaks to the warmth and familiarity of its Brazilian owners.
Today, Sabor Unido stands as one of the highest-rated restaurants in the New Jersey area, according to Yelp.
